ENGLISH<\/strong>

About 7\/8 months ago, I started making a self-fertilising mound also known as huglekultur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had all the ‘ingredients’ around me to build it: dead wood, branches, wood shavings and grass and leaf mulch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I took my time building it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to this construction, I was able to get some exercise outdoors all through the winter, whenever I could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s finally finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I’m not sure I’ll be using it this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, it is very dry and the mound is brand new. I don’t think it’s had time to replenish its moisture content, bearing in mind that we’ve had a fairly dry winter and a dry-ish spring. What\u2019s more, we are currently experiencing the flash drought which is happening in the Northern half of France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, I’m not too advanced with my garden, so I can still decide to plant something in it…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, a potato that I forgot to pick last year has grown at the base of the construction. I’ve never watered it and it’s looking much better than the others I planted in the garden from the end of March onward. I’ve had to water them while keeping my fingers crossed for rain soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disappointed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huglekultur is not a matter of speed, it’s a story that will evolve over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have plenty of space in my garden to experiment with things that don’t have to come to fruition quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the ideas for the world of after is to slow down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This self-fertilising mound, before being a place that I’m going to use to produce food, is above all a desire to take life more slowly and even to accept that life has to move more slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I studied this type of cultivation, I took into account the fact that it can take three whole years before it’s really productive. This type of no-dig raised bed can then last for many years. By adding mulch regularly on top, it will continue to produce for a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In short, “We have all the time in the world”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FRAN\u00c7AIS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a de cela 7\/8 mois environ, j\u2019ai commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 fabriquer une butte autofertile aussi connue comme huglekultur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019avais tous les \u00ab ingr\u00e9dients \u00bb tout autour de chez moi pour la construire ; du bois mort, des branchages, des copeaux de bois et du paillage d\u2019herbe et de feuilles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai pris mon temps pour la faire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 cette construction, j\u2019ai fait un peu d\u2019exercice tout l\u2019hiver en ext\u00e9rieur, d\u00e9s que je le pouvais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle est finalement finie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais je ne suis pas s\u00fbre de l\u2019utiliser cette ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pourquoi ?

Et bien il fait tr\u00e8s sec et la butte est toute neuve. Je ne pense pas qu\u2019elle ait eu le temps de faire le plein d\u2019humidit\u00e9, sachant que nous avons eu un hiver plut\u00f4t sec, de m\u00eame pour le printemps. En plus, nous subissons actuellement la s\u00e9cheresse \u00e9clair, install\u00e9e sur la partie nord de la France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En m\u00eame temps, je ne suis pas en avance avec mon jardin, donc je peux encore d\u00e9cider d\u2019y planter quelques chose…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Par contre une patate que j\u2019ai oubli\u00e9 de ramasser l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re a pouss\u00e9 au pied de la construction. Je ne l\u2019ai jamais arros\u00e9e et elle a l\u2019air en bien meilleure forme que les autres que j\u2019ai plant\u00e9es dans le jardin d\u00e9s le mois mars. J\u2019ai d\u2019ailleurs d\u00fb les arroser tout en croisant les doigts pour qu\u2019il pleuve bient\u00f4t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D\u00e9\u00e7ue ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Non.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La huglekultur, ce n\u2019est pas une affaire de rapidit\u00e9, c\u2019est une histoire qui va \u00e9voluer dans le temps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J\u2019ai beaucoup d\u2019espace dans mon jardin pour me permettre de faire des exp\u00e9riences qui n\u2019ont pas besoin d\u2019aboutir rapidement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une des id\u00e9es du monde d\u2019apr\u00e8s, c\u2019est de ralentir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette butte, avant d\u2019\u00eatre un endroit que je vais utiliser pour produire de la nourriture, c\u2019est avant tout une volont\u00e9 de prendre la vie plus lentement et m\u00eame d\u2019accepter que la vie doit avancer plus lentement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quand j\u2019ai \u00e9tudi\u00e9 ce type de culture, j\u2019ai pris en compte le fait que \u00e7a peut d\u00e9j\u00e0 prendre trois ann\u00e9es enti\u00e8res avant d\u2019\u00eatre vraiment productif. Une butte autofertile peut en suite perdurer pendant de longues ann\u00e9es. En rajoutant du paillage r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement, elle continuera \u00e0 produire longtemps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
