ENGLISH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us go back to the past and what I faced in 2012 when I decided to start my garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photos should be more explicit than words, but I propose to add a little bit of history to the images.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The garden belonged to my father who had been a great user of all type of products from chemical fertilizers to herbicides and insecticides. The place was not quite dead, but not far from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obviously from day one, I decided I would not use anything which is not natural in that garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the first year I simply didn\u2019t add anything at all as there was still a lot of my father\u2019s fertilizers in the soil… My husband tested it and the level of phosphate was sky high! The fact is also, I didn\u2019t have time to faff about if I wanted to produce some food and that was my main aim as a self-sufficient thinker and I was already late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought there was no point to try to do anything to change or improve the place, so I ploughed the earth and started my garden. I can see people horrified at the idea of using the tiller but I did and I still do, but not quite the same way than I did back then. My idea of gardening was not that far from the one of my father, just without anything chemical added. But the look of the place I was heading for was nice rows of vegetables with as little weeds as possible around them. Luckily enough, 2012 was not a super hot year and it rained regularly, so I was lucky to produce plenty of food without feeling the devastating powers of nature\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was still hard work and I seem to recall waking up one day in summer and feeling swamped by the whole thing! I had gone way too big!! There was a moment of panic and a great wish to give it all up, but I didn\u2019t and at the end of the season I was happy with myself as I had produced enough vegetables and fruits to eat and preserve as well. Not bad for my real first time on that scale! Okay, I had a past history in my little suburban garden back in the UK, but I had never handled a garden that size on my own…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Repartons dans le pass\u00e9 avec ce qui me faisait face en 2012 quand j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de commencer mon jardin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos devraient \u00eatre plus explicites que des mots, mais je propose d\u2019ajouter un petit peu d\u2019histoire avec les images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le jardin avait appartenu \u00e0 mon p\u00e8re qui \u00e9tait un grand utilisateur de tout un tas de produits, des fertilisants chimiques jusqu\u2019aux d\u00e9sherbants en passant par les insecticides. L\u2019endroit n\u2019\u00e9tait pas vraiment mort, mais pas loin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bien-s\u00fbr d\u00e9s le premier jour, j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de ne rien ajouter dans mon jardin qui n\u2019\u00e9tait pas naturel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et la premi\u00e8re ann\u00e9e, J\u2019ai simplement rien ajout\u00e9 du tout vu que de toute fa\u00e7on il restait une bonne quantit\u00e9 de fertilisants ajout\u00e9s par mon p\u00e8re dans le sol\u2026 Mon mari a test\u00e9 la terre chimiquement et le niveau de phosphate \u00e9tait vertigineux ! Le fait est qu\u2019en m\u00eame temps je n\u2019avais pas le temps de bricoler quoique ce soit car je voulais produire \u00e0 manger ; c\u2019\u00e9tait ma priorit\u00e9 absolue de d\u00e9croissante et j\u2019\u00e9tais d\u00e9j\u00e0 en retard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je me suis dit que ce n\u2019\u00e9tait pas la peine de faire quoique ce soit pour changer la donne \u00e0 ce point et j\u2019ai labour\u00e9 la terre. Je vois d\u00e9j\u00e0 des gens ouvrir des yeux horrifi\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e d\u2019utiliser le motoculteur mais je l\u2019ai fait et je le fait encore mais plus tout \u00e0 fait de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re. Mon id\u00e9e de jardinage n\u2019\u00e9tait pas si \u00e9loign\u00e9e de celle de mon p\u00e8re, juste sans les produits chimiques rajout\u00e9s. Mais le look de l\u2019endroit que je voulais cr\u00e9er allait avoir de jolis rangs de l\u00e9gumes avec le moins de mauvaises herbes possible autour de mes l\u00e9gumes. Heureusement en 2012 l\u2019\u00e9t\u00e9 n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 super chaud et il a plu r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement, donc j\u2019ai eu la chance de produire plein de l\u00e9gumes sans vraiment ressentir les effets d\u00e9vastateur de la nature\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce fut beaucoup de travail et je me rappelle me r\u00e9veiller un jour en me sentant compl\u00e8tement submerg\u00e9e car j\u2019\u00e9tais d\u00e9bord\u00e9e par la chose ! J\u2019avais vu trop grand !! Il y a eu un moment de panique et une grande envie de tout abandonner, mais je ne l\u2019ai pas fait et \u00e0 la fin de la saison je fus heureuse de mon travail car j\u2019avais produit assez de l\u00e9gumes et de fruits pour manger et m\u00eame pour faire des conserves. Pas si mal que \u00e7a pour ma premi\u00e8re fois avec un jardin de cette taille. Ok je n\u2019\u00e9tais pas une vraie novice, j\u2019avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 une exp\u00e9rience avec mon petit jardin de banlieue en grande Bretagne, mais je n\u2019avais jamais pris en main un jardin aussi grand toute seule…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
