I had intended to render the walls of the newly-constructed arch today; but last night LSS reminded me that I had still not started making this year’s batch of sloe wine.

So I’ve made a start with that instead. I also bottled the most recent batch of beer. It’s 9 litres of Brewferm Triple; but I’ve had no end of trouble with the fermentation. It at last reached 1.036 final gravity despite being in the fermentation bucket for a month. This is a bit high for bottling (a reading of 1.020 or below is better), but I’ve taken the risk anyway. I did use champagne bottles though, so hopefully none of them will burst. The final gravity reading means that the %ABV of the beer is a mere 3.8% instead of the promised 8%.

Anyway, here’s some promised photos of the arch construction:

  1. Rob,on the first foto(before you broke through) there is a green/black gadget with earphones hanging next to a glass door,is that a metal detector? (by the way-beautifull old wooden ladder)

    1. There’s nothing wrong with your eyes! Yes, it’s a metal detector. I forgot to put it upstairs away from the dust, so I had to clean it! LSS bought it for my birthday a few years ago and it’s been fun using it in the garden. I found lots of treasure, namely old rusty nails and bits of wire! One day I’ll find some Roman gold coins hahahaha.
There were two other old ladders like that one, but they were processed in the wood stove because they were completely rotten!
Oh and the glass door is for our future indoor shower, donated to us free from T&M (his uncle was upgrading his bathroom and throwing the old shower away).
And that red-painted box you see in the 3rd photo originally contained something labelled 5.56 ball. In your days it would have been 7.62…

  2. started with 7.62 ,but did all my bush nonsens with 5.56…..
don’t think a photo is just a photo-i watch all of it
